On 29 October, GREEN-LOOP took part in the round table “Assessing the sustainability and circularity of the bio-based industry: Insights and lessons learnt”, held at the City of Culture in Santiago de Compostela (Spain), within the framework of the BioReCer Project Final Event.
Carlos Bernárdez Casás (AIMEN Centro Tecnológico) represented the Horizon Europe GREEN-LOOP Project at the event. He was invited by Cetaqua – Water Technology Centre, coordinator of the BioReCer project, to contribute to the round table discussion together with other European initiatives working on sustainability and circularity assessment in the bio-based sector.
GREEN-LOOP was considered a particularly suitable project for this exchange, as it has developed and applied impact assessment methodologies directly linked to sustainability and circularity in the bio-based industry. During the round table, Carlos Bernárdez Casás presented the GREEN-LOOP methodology for assessing environmental impacts related to circularity and sustainability in bio-based value chains, highlighting its relevance for supporting informed decision-making and responsible innovation.
The round table followed an interactive format, with four-minute presentations per project, followed by 20 minutes of questions from the moderator and an additional 20 minutes of open discussion with the audience. The high quality of the presentations, the rich exchange of ideas, and the diversity of perspectives shared clearly underlined the importance of cross-sector collaboration to advance towards a truly circular economy.
Participation in the event provided valuable insights and lessons learned that will continue to inspire future work in the field of sustainability assessment. Special thanks go to the organisers for creating a constructive environment that fostered dialogue and joint knowledge-building. Events like this are essential to strengthening collaboration and promoting sustainable development and the responsible use of bio-based materials.
The event was organised in the context of the Biological Resources Certification Schemes (BioReCer) project.
